
The Virginia Department of Forestry reports a brush fire that is burning in Bland County has grown to around 200 acres as of Friday morning and is now 70% contained.
East River Mountain Road in Bland County, close to the Virginia/West Virginia state boundary, was the scene of a fire on Thursday.
Bland County Emergency Services says it’s safe for people who were evacuated from the fire area to return home.
According to the Bland County Sheriff’s Office, through traffic is now allowed on East River Mountain Road. On Thursday afternoon, it had to close due to the fire.
Brad Carico, a Western Regional Forester for the Virginia Department of Forestry, stated on Thursday that “we’ll have staff here overnight.” In the morning, new teams will be brought in. We will persist, strengthening our containment perimeters and ensuring the fire remains contained. I hope that we can achieve complete containment by tomorrow afternoon.
