On Tuesday, the Food and Drug Administration issued a recall for thousands of pounds of ground coffee that were incorrectly labeled as decaffeinated in 15 U.S. states.
In Colorado, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Missouri, Minnesota, North Carolina, North Dakota, Nebraska, Ohio, South Dakota, Wisconsin, and Wyoming, hundreds of 12-ounce bags of Our Family Traverse City Cherry Decaf Light Roast Ground Coffee were marketed under false pretenses, the FDA said.
Earlier this month, Our Family issued a statement stating that the recall did not impact any of its other goods.
“We are committed to your health and safety, and we follow best practices to ensure the quality and safety of the products we sell,” the business stated. “We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.”
One of the biggest coffee suppliers in the United States, Massimo Zanetti Beverage USA, voluntarily announced the recall on March 13.
A “category II” label was applied to the recall by the FDA, which describes “a situation in which use of, or exposure to, a violative product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences.”
Requests for comment were not immediately answered by SpartanNash, the coffee’s distributor, or Massimo Zanetti.
