DEARBORN, Mich. – There is now a $20,000 reward for the murder of a teenager in Dearborn who was killed by a driver in a car she was pursuing after a road rage incident.
The incident occurred in Dearborn, close to Warren Avenue and the Southfield Freeway Service Drive, at approximately 10 p.m. on Friday, February 21.
During the altercation, Rawan Baseti, 19, was shot and murdered.
Authorities claim that following a hazardous interaction with the driver of a white 2015 Chrysler 200, the adolescent was driving a black 2018 Jeep Cherokee with pals in the car when they followed the car to obtain the license plate information.
The service drive led them north, then east on Tireman, and then two more miles of following.
At a press conference on Friday, March 21, 2025, Dearborn Police Chief Issa Shahin stated that Baseti was killed after the situation became more heated and the people inside the other car started shooting.
During the news conference, the teen’s brother, Hani Baseti, commented, “It would be an understatement to say that my family and I are devastated or heartbroken.” “We were broken by losing Rawan.”
In order for his sister to at last “get the rest she deserves,” he called on the community to speak up.
Information leading to charges might result in a cash reward of up to $20,000.
Crime Stoppers accepts tips online or by calling 1-800-SPEAK-UP. All suggestions will be kept private.
The chief was also questioned during the news conference regarding the case’s relationship to the barricaded situation that followed the incident in Detroit.
Shahin stated that although there had been arrests, no charges had been filed, therefore individuals of interest had been freed pending additional inquiry.
The chief emphasized that, despite the existence of individuals of interest in the case, they are now seeking information on anyone.
Shahin encouraged everyone to provide whatever information they may have, regardless of how minor it may seem.
According to the chief, the Dearborn Police Department is in charge of the investigation and is collaborating with regional, state, and federal partners.
The public is being advised to disclose any information they do have to the police department and to never pursue a car during a traffic dispute.
