
The sport’s regulatory organizations are being sued by the Professional Tennis Players’ Association (PTPA), which claims that they have engaged in anti-competitive behavior and show little concern for the welfare of players.
The PTPA, an independent players’ organization that Novak Djokovic co-founded in 2019, announced on Tuesday that it has been compelled to file a lawsuit to stop “monopolistic control” of professional tennis following years of sincere attempts to change the game.
According to a release, the PTPA filed documents against the ATP Tour, the WTA Tour, the International Tennis Federation (ITF), and the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) in a New York court alongside over a dozen other players.
“Tennis is broken,” as stated in a statement by PTPA Executive Director Ahmad Nassar. “Players are ensnared in an unjust system that takes advantage of their talent, stifles their profits, and endangers their health and safety behind the glitzy façade that the Defendants portray.
